MURPHY: THE PHAT CAT

As this year is already slowly coming to an end, and around the time of Thanksgiving, I always like to give thanks for all the amazing blessings I have in my life.  However, there is one in particular I don’t think I’ve given enough thanks to… that would be my black cat, Murphy.  You see?  He is a very old cat, about 18-years-old.  We don’t know how much longer we’re going to have him around.  He’s already “just” hanging in there.  But, he’s no ordinary cat.  We found our black cat (or he found us, rather) — as a stray — many full moons ago, and he was always special.  I can’t explain it!  He’s just one of those cats you have to meet to fully understand.  Maybe it was always his coolness (boss-like) attitude!  The fact that he LOVES to eat, I mean LOVES food (he once reached an astounding 35 lbs.), or that he thinks he is more a dog than a cat anyways.  But, never call him… f-a-t!  No. No.  Just large, big-boned, or even PHAT!!!  But, this extraordinarily large, special cat really was who inspired my very first children’s book.  He got the sparks flying for me!  So, in honor of Murphy’s long life, and to give thanks for him this year, I welcome you to read about the famous, MURPHY: THE PHAT CAT.  Maybe you’ve been lucky enough to have been blessed by one of these furry pets who has touched your life, and if so, give thanks to them this year!  Their little spirits are worthy of the recognition.  They definitely make our lives that much more colorful & cool (phat)!

MURPHY: THE PHAT CAT

Everybody knows it’s really the cats who run the neighborhood of Majestic Groves, right? Especially, a really cool cat (phat, not fat) named Murphy.

Murphy, the phat cat, is unique because of his thirty-five pound body size and his warm and sensitive nature. There are two things that this cat can’t refuse: lending a helping paw to his fellow-furry neighbors and his cravings for tuna fish.
The gossip queen of cats, Maisie Mums, comes to Murphy to fill him in with the problem on how the neighborhood cats have fallen victim to annoying pestering from a gang of burrowing owls. The gang is lead by an old, wise owl named, Don Owl Leon, and they have just recently moved to his neighborhood of Majestic Groves, causing chaos.
With the advice from his chameleon adviser, Gaidan, the protection from his bodyguard bulldog, Ruthless Riley, and the assistance of his friends, the two Siberian husky sisters, he decides to try and come up with a solution. However, the plan changes when the owls kidnap, Peanut, his sister-cat. Murphy has to come up with a new answer, and his true character is put to the test.
After coming to the realization that the owls are acting malicious due to their subconscious fear of loss of habitat, Murphy and some friends decide to help the owls by putting together a project to preserve the owls’ existence. But they can’t do it alone; the implementation of the project depends on Murphy’s human owner, Teresa. They mysteriously give her the plan for a project that can change the fate of the owls, and little does she know that the animals there had something to do with its creation.

Oh, Murphy, thank every day he’s still with you. One of mine made it to sixteen before she couldn’t anymore. An owl more, and owl less, Murphy says he’s the real deal.
