“Tis the season to be merry…”

Clark: “Tis the season to be merry…”

Mary: “That’s my name.”

Clark: “No sh*t.”

We all know the lines from this famous holiday classic… Christmas Vacation!  Not only is it one of the best written comedies of all time, we love it so much because we can completely relate to how crazy it can be during the holiday season, especially with our families.  Right?  Well, at least for me, it does.  Every year, we have a big Christmas celebrating with my large, crazy Italian family, and it always gets nuts just nearing the finish line.  We always almost end up choking one another, however, we do it with so much love and passion… you just gotta love us!  We’ve all had one too many pizza fritte (fried dough with powdered sugar), eggnogs, mimosas, red wine, presents, debates, children having meltdowns, dogs drinking water from the tree, and well, just about everything!

So, at the end when Clark loses it, I can’t help that this is one of my favorite scenes in a comedy.  I crack up every time, watching!

Clark: “Where do you think you’re going? Nobody’s leaving. Nobody’s walking out on this fun, old-fashioned family Christmas. No, no. We’re all in this together. This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here. We’re gonna press on, and we’re gonna have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny f*cking Kaye. And when Santa squeezes his fat white a** down that chimney tonight, he’s gonna find the jolliest bunch of a**holes this side of the nuthouse.”

Sorry, but I can watch this over and over, and it never gets old!

So, when you find yourselves red in the face over the stresses of the holiday season — whether it be from the mall madness of shopping, family debates, or things going wrong, like all your light bulbs on your tree flickering out right before 40 people are about to come over for your famous Christmas party — remember Clark Griswold and just laugh!  It’s important that we always maintain that sense of humor, and remember why we do it… for the love we bring to one another during this special time of year!

And last of all, when you try and think of how you’re going to get through it, in the words of Clark Sr. “I had a lot of help from Jack Daniels.”

Happy Holidays and again, “tis the season to be merry!!!” :-))
